Want to know how to play music from classic Nintendo games on your computer? To do that you need to unerstand what is a .nsf? .nsf stands for a Nintendo Sound File, which are essentially music dumps from all of the sound on an NES cartridge.

However, because of how unique these file structures are, you need a player that can recognize them. To do this, you can use a plug-in for winamp, a stand alone program in Windows or try Audio Overlord for the Mac.

Winamp is available free for download at winamp.com

I’ve included the plug-in I currently use with winamp:

Festalon - Version 0.3.0

Another great way to listen to classic tunes captured in .nsf files is by trying VirtuaNSF. As a standalone program it installs easily and lets you cycle through the tracks available on the .nsf file with ease.

VitruaNSF - Version 1.0.1.5 -

For Mac users there is Audio Overlord Version 2.0b3 - Click Here to download it

After you’ve installed the program or plugin, simply drag and drop the .nsf files you’ve downloaded to your computer.

Click here to view our collection of free .nsf files.

Which games do you think should make the list that I happened to miss? There are several other games I believe all Nintendo fans should have, but I wanted to keep the list as short as possible.
